IN THIS LESSON
Career coaching helps you find a new job. Life design coaching helps you figure out if a new job is even what you need.
In this lesson, you'll learn the key differences between life design coaching and traditional career coaching, and why those differences matter for mid-career professionals who are ready for something more than a job search.
Career vs Life Coaching
Career coaching and life design coaching are often grouped together, but they serve fundamentally different purposes and operate at very different levels.
The Difference
Traditional career coaching is largely tactical. It helps you polish your resume, strengthen your LinkedIn presence, prepare for interviews, and navigate a job search. It's valuable work, but it assumes you already know what you want and just need help getting there.
Life design coaching starts earlier in the process. Before the resume. Before the job search. Before the decision. It helps you get clear on what you actually want your next chapter to look like (professionally and personally), so that when you do make a move, it's the right one.
The difference isn't just about tools or techniques. It's about depth. Career coaching works on the surface of your professional life. Life design coaching works at the intersection of who you are and what you do.
For mid-career professionals, that distinction is everything. After 15 or more years of building a career, the question isn't usually "how do I find a new job?" It's "what do I actually want my work (and my life) to look like from here?" That's the question life design coaching is built to answer.
